The paper is manufactured with relief allowing the light to play magically on its surface making the matter seem unreal.
In addition to the difference in density (about twice lighter than glass) PMMA resin restores a perfect transparency of the clear parts of the paper, allowing a precise outline of the shadows cast. Its width, up to 25mm allows side lighting with LEDs.

Picture of a prototype where one sees the LED bars in the top and bottom of the panel. On a panel of 3m in length lighting from the LEDs is done from the top and bottom.
Detail of a panel lit from the side. The light is captured by the relief of the paper. The panel becomes luminous. To diffuse the light on more than one metre one needs at least 15mm of thickness.
